PN All-Stars: The Series
Meet the All-Stars
Portfolio Night is the world’s largest portfolio review for young creatives looking to break into the advertising industry. Now in its twelfth straight year, Portfolio Night will be taking place on Wednesday, May 21st in 24 cities around the globe!
Portfolio Night has always been a highlight all its own, but last year we introduced a brand new element that extends the excitement of the evening far beyond a single day in May. Portfolio Night All-Stars brings the person with the very best book in each Portfolio Night location to New York, for a week-long challenge, working with fellow All-Stars on a real creative brief.
Let the games begin! The 23 All-Stars have arrived at the ADC Gallery in New York, from every participating Portfolio Night city around the globe. They’ve checked into their hotel rooms, and are ready to crack open the creative brief for a week-long challenge with Ford.
Day 1 begins with an inspiring talk from Amir Kassaei, Chief Creative Officer of DDB Worldwide, as well as a briefing from Team Detroit, Ford’s agency of record.
The challenge: rethink the Ford Focus, making it more than just an A-to-B vehicle. How will the All-Stars tackle this brief, overcoming language barriers and creative differences along the way?
It’s Day Two of Portfolio Night All-Stars, and the six teams are really starting to get into a groove — as well as into their impressive swag bags!
Following a spirited guest presentation by Natalie Lam, Executive Creative Director of McCann Erickson, the 23 All-Stars went on a field trip to Manhattan Ford, where they got to kick the tires on some brand new Focuses and experience the car firsthand. This outing forced the All-Stars to readjust their early thoughts, opinions and campaign ideas, and when they returned to the ADC Gallery, they were excited to get back to work, even if that meant starting from square one.
It’s Day Three of Portfolio Night All-Stars, the halfway point of the international creative adventure!
The day begins with a very insightful lesson by Benjamin Palmer, Founder of the Barbarian Group and ADC Board President… but are the teams too far along their paths to take those lessons to heart? Watch as fantastic ideas lose their lustre once presented to resident Ford expert Curtis Melville. Is there enough time to go back to the drawing board? The six All-Star teams will have to if they stand a chance of victory.
It’s Day Four of Portfolio Night All-Stars, and it’s crunch time for the six teams. With one day left before final presentations, how will they fare?
Our special guest for Day Four was Rei Inamoto, Chief Creative Officer of AKQA. Rei’s easygoing nature initially set the All-Stars at ease, but when it came time for him to give tips and pointers to the individual teams, Rei made the All-Stars realize that the clock might not have enough hours left on it to pull off everything they wish to do. Who will cruise into the final day with a solid campaign? Who will be burning the midnight oil just to get something — anything — worth presenting?
This is it! The final day of ADC’s Portfolio Night All-Stars! The time for brainstorming concepts, for crafting executions is now over. In the few hours that remain, the six All-Stars teams must now concentrate on their pitches, which will be presented in front of real Ford representatives. After all, it’s one thing to have a great idea, but it’s an entirely different thing to be able to sell it.
Everybody appears confident, and everybody will leave New York with an experience that will jumpstart their careers, but only one team can be victorious. Who will it be? Torino? Marauder? Maverick? Mondeo? Grenada? Falcon? It all ends here!
