PORTFOLIO NIGHT 8 QUEBEC CITY PARTICIPANT
__________________________
You’ve been to Portfolio Night before. How would you describe it to a fellow CD who has never been?
“Draining. You feel like a queen bee, only there to be drained of all your knowledge and energy… and miraculously, that’s exactly what recharges and triple-boosts your batteries! Don’t do Portfolio Night and you’re the one who loses out big.”
What are your biggest pet peeves about the work in most junior portfolios
“The fact that most teachers just don’t bother telling them how to go job hunting and how to present themselves. I don’t blame the kids one bit, but rather the school personnel that rarely gives good coaching on what to present, and how..”
What would get your attention more, a portfolio full of amazing ‘traditional’
work (print, poster, outdoor) or a portfolio of pretty good boundary stretching work (digital, interactive, wild new guerilla concepts, mobile apps, etc.)?
“Neither and both. Personally, it happens in the eyes and the attitude. Look at someone’s eyes that are dancing with passion and excitement, and I’ll hire that person over a great portfolio anyday. It’s a combination of talent, drive, curiosity.”
What is the stupidest thing somebody has done to get you to see them or their work?
“One person sent me a pound of hamburger meat with a note saying something along the lines of: FRESH NEW MEAT AVAILABLE. Unfortunately, he got low-cost meat and it pretty well stank by the time the messenger delivered it to our office. But I did meet the guy… I had to see for myself.”
