What are you hoping to experience at Portfolio Night?
“I want to come away feeling jealous. This is the next generation of our ever changing business. I want to be inspired by the great talent. I want to see people with drive and courage to change things. To look at things differently.”
What single piece of advice would you give a young creative before he or she sits down with you at PN8?
“Be passionate. Be smart. This is about your work – the work that you have slaved over, designed and redesigned. The work that has kept you up at night. The work that has occupied your mind for way longer then it should. Be proud of it, be passionate about it. But be ready to listen to thoughts that might make it even better.”
Looking back, what was your own first portfolio like?
“A few polished, fully art directed pieces, but mostly thumb nails of ideas. A whole range of ideas for a wide range of brands. Real tough brands and some niche fun brands.”
Do you prefer to look at work on a laptop or in a physical portfolio?
“Doesn’t matter. Tools are tools. Its the idea that counts. An idea scribbled is worth more then a polished turd.”
A top-notch portfolio is crucial, but how much does personality count towards making a hire?
“Personality is huge. We work in a communication business. We collaborate with so many people. We share ideas constantly. We push each other. You can only do that with a strong personality, a healthy confidence and energy.”
