You’ve just been given $1000 to spend on improving and enriching your creativity. What do you spend it on?

“First thing I would do is hit up some live concerts and festivals. Then I’d take whatever is left and experience the most obscure and weird things I could like roller derbies or reading books that never got published. I’d probably use some of it as bail money after getting caught doing some graffiti with street artisits. Those guys amaze me.”

At what point of the day do you feel most creative?

” Definitely late at night. Something about the dark with some ambient music playing really gets my thoughts going.”

Of all the Twitter accounts you follow, which ones are your favorite and why?

“It’s a tough call, but it has to be Neil Tyson. Tyson is this brilliant guy who has a fantastic way of boiling down even the most distant scientific topics and making them accessible to anyone. What’s so great is he still communicates their mind-blowing impact within our lives.”

Do you prefer to think things out with a pen and paper or on a computer?

“Pen and pad. Sometimes my ideas hit me on the subway or walking around and I need to get them down. I also tend to free write and scratch out pretty often. If I did it on a computer I wouldn’t be able to see my previous thoughts and mind set.”

Can creativity be taught?

“Encouraged and sharpened? Yes. Taught? No. It’s almost a matter of how weird you’re willing to be.”

Everybody knows Crispin Porter + Bogusky, Wieden + Kennedy and Droga5, but do you have an agency that you absolutely love that you find few people know about?

“There’s this agency I found in Philly called D4 Creative Group. They deal mostly with cable but the energy these guys have is definitely unique. Their founder used to be in the music industry and one day decided to try his hand at advertising. I wouldn’t be surprised to see some really cool and big things come from them.”
